Curse of Timur

Timur was a warlord from the Chagatai line of the mongols. He controlled small pieces of land it today's Iran. Although he was encircled by stronger opponents, he prevailed and conquered them all. The estimations say that during his campaigns he had killed around 5% of the whole world population. He then established a Timurid Empire who continued to dominate persia region for a century. Despite all these achievements, that most interesting part of the story is when he was buried. A person so famous and fearful as Timur would surely attract some rumours. The most popular one and the most interesting one was that his body was put in Tamerlane's Tomb with the engraving on the side, "When I rise from the dead, the world shall tremble". When the tomb was opened a second engraving was found, "Whoseever disturbs my tomb Will unleash an Invader More terrible than I". It was soviet researchers who had found it in 19th June 1941 and 3 days later Soviet Union was attacked by Hitler and Nazi Germany. And that is not the end of legend. In the late 1942 supposedly ordered to return Timur back to his grave and that is when the tides of war had changed and the soviets managed to defeat Nazis. Although it is a legend, it is still very popular as a tale in the middle east and Iran.
