munitionette football

During World War One (WW1), when all men went to fight, football leagues were suspended. There was simply not enough players to play. However in 1915 the munitionettes, so the girls working in the ammunition factories started playing football in absence of their husbands. This led to forming new women-only teams which played on the arenas of known and popular men clubes. Strangely the "munitionette football" was extremely popular and was a frequent entertainment for women.
